Rabbi Eisenman

Yesterday, after the horrific terror attack which has claimed six lives and caused multiple serious injuries, I felt the need to be “amongst the people.”

I headed to Kikar Zion, Zion Square- which is the center of town - to be “bSoch Ami”- among my people.

The Square was filled with heavily armed soldiers as people went on with their “normal” lives.

I wanted to do something, so I went over to a group of soldiers and thanked each one for their service and asked if I could buy them water or food as they are protecting OUR country.

Most thanked me and smiled.

One soldier in particular said something very special to me.

After offering to buy him a drink or food, he replied, “Thank you for offering, I have drinks and food.”

He then looked me in the eye and said something I hope never to forget.

He said, “Thank you for caring, it means a lot coming from someone like you.”
