Rabbi Eisenman

Today as I walking around Yerushalayim I passed a father with three beautiful Jewish children.

His children were asking him/ to buy donuts for them for Chanukah, however, at 15 Shekes each (about four dollars) the father explained they were too expensive.

I was debating whether I should offer to buy the children donuts, however, before I could react the father stepped in. He noticed that on the on the side of the road there were two policemen on motorcycles.

The father came up with an original idea.

He approached the two policemen and asked if the children could sit for a moment on the motorcycle

The policemen were only too happy to oblige and they quickly helped the three children mount their police-cycles.

The children were overjoyed with being able to sit in a real-life police motorcycle.

n a real police vehicle and were smiling from ear to ear.

As the father photographed them, the children were thrilled.

I too grabbed my camera and took a picture of this father giving his children a simple pleasure without costing him money.

I was also very impressed with the sensitivity of the policemen who granted these children a special Chanukah experience

Sometimes in life the simplest things are the most precious!

What I love about this picture, is that it depicts what Israel is all about- a place which is accepting of all Jews, irrespective of their race, creed or color

This resonates especially with me as I have always insisted the Ahavas never be a place for the elite or the “in” crowd. Rather, I have always insisted that the Ahavas be the inclusive community Shul, where FFBs and BTs, converts and just simple Jews can and do feel comfortable in our Shul.

This has been my philosophy from day one and I will continue to insist that the Ahavas remain the community Shul that it is!

Before wishing all a Chanukah Sameach and a good Rosh. Chodesh, I’ll take the opportunity to remind everyone once again of our first time ever online fundraiser to renovate and modernize the much needed amenities of urban Shul.

I am attaching my own personal link for those who wish to be a partner as the Ahavas continues to remain the true community Shul it has always been!

Wishing you all a wonderful Shabbos Chanukah and Good Rosh Chodesh from the holiest city of the world!
