The Short Vort

Good Morning!

Today is Wednesday the 27th of Sivan 5770 and June 9, 2010

The Time Found

Yesterday, as I awoke I looked up at the clock radio by my bed and saw that is said 5:36 am.

That is not an especially early time for me to arise as often I get up earlier.

I arose from my bed and began preparations for serving Hashem.

At one point after I was already up and getting ready I glanced at my watch and noticed that is said 5:00! “That’s strange”, I said to myself, “How could have been 5:36 a.m. about twenty minutes ago and now its only 5 am? I know that time does not stand still, however, I did not realize it sometimes goes backward!”

After making a quick survey of other time pieces in the house I concluded that my wrist watch was the correct time and that my clock radio had lost power and was therefore incorrect in its time. In truth I did not get up at 5:36 am, it was closer to 4:30 am!

As I was already dressed and ready to go, I proceeded to the Shul to prepare for the day.

However, as I was walking I kept thinking to myself, “Imagine if in reality time had gone back? Imagine if Hashem had really allowed me to relive one hour of my life? What would I do if I could choose to live one hour of my life again? What hour would I choose to ‘do over’?

Would I delete a conversation I had with a loved one? Would I go back on one of my davenings which I should have davened better?

What would it be that I would re-do?

What hour of the day; of my life, would I choose to turn the clock back on if I could?

However, since I cannot turn back the clock, perhaps I should try my best to do it correctly the first time?
